Welcome to a GREAT New Year

2012 promises to be a spectacular year.  And that is one of the reasons why the Foreign Office -together with UKTI and VisitBritain- have launched the GREAT campaign, to focus on everything the UK has to offer as one of the very best places in the world to visit, study, work, invest and do business.

I would like people in Argentina to join us in celebrating the many things that have made our country the GREAT place to live, work and visit that it is today.

• We will be commemorating HM Queen Elizabeth II’s 60 years on the throne with the Diamond Jubilee in June.  
• We will be celebrating the achievements of two of our greatest literary figures through the World Shakespeare Festival and the Charles Dickens Bicentenary.
• We will be hosting the biggest cultural festival the UK has ever seen with artists from all over the world joining is for the London 2012 Festival.
• And of course in July the greatest show on earth will come to London when, for the third time, we host the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

But even though all eyes will be turned to London, here at the British Embassy we will continue to work hard to strengthen the ties with Argentina, including by disseminating the results of a wide range of projects we have developed throughout 2011 with Argentine partners. We are also looking forward to planning new initiatives with our partners for the year ahead.

But most of all, 2012 is the year we want each and every one of you to see what Britain has to offer. The Olympics will reveal a country that is modern, dynamic, business friendly and a top destination for tourism. And we want everyone to feel part of it!
