Queen's Birthday Party (24/04/2009)
Like British Embassies all over the world, in Buenos Aires we celebrated the Queen's Birthday Party. This year, for the first time, a Climate Change theme was added to show what the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is doing for the planet.
The Party was held at the British Ambassador's Residence, and was very well attended. Guests were able to walk around the garden and marquee and enjoy a climate change photo-exhibition, loaned by the British Council. Two solar panels were also on display, one of which can be used to heat water and the other one to produce electricity.
What is more, a poster also detailed the ongoing climate change projects the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is developing in the region, as well as the different initiatives the Embassy has been organising to cut down on its own carbon emissions.
The event was a great opportunity for meeting contacts and thanking them for their work and co-operation. It was also the Ambassador's first big event. During her toast, she highlighted the importance of the work regarding climate change, and pointed out the fact that the carbon emissions produced by the Party would be offset.
After the toast, a space was cleared in the marquee and the dancing started: the Embassy staff were soon joined by many guests, who danced until after midnight, making this a great party for everyone.
