Visit of Andrew Cahn, Chief Executive of UK Trade & Investment (03/11/2009)

Sir Andrew addressed members of the Argentine British Chamber of Commerce in a lunch in his honour.

Sir Andrew Cahn, Chief Executive of UK Trade & Investment visited Argentina between 22 and 23 October.

During his stay, he met with his opposite numbers Dr Marcelo Elizondo, Chief Executive of Fundacion Exportar, Argentina’s Export promotion body and with Dr Beatriz Nofal, Chief Executive of Prosperar, Argentina’s Inward Investment Promotion Agency.

He addressed members of the Argentine British Chamber of Commerce in a lunch in his honour at La Cabaña, one of Argentina’s top steakhouses and part of Britain’s Orient Express group. During this event, he spoke positively about Britain’s economy, how UK Trade& Investment helps companies during the downturn and on how UK Trade & Investment uses new media to communicate with its customers and stakeholders.

After lunch, Sir Andrew discussed business opportunities in the region with the members of Britlan, the British Chambers of Commerce in Latin America, who were in Buenos Aires for their annual gathering.

Sir Andrew later visited Three Melons (www.threemelons.com) a young Argentine software firm, specialising in online games for large international companies including Lego, MTV, and others.

He also met with representatives of Argentina’s design community, who are looking forward to a large Argentine presence at next year’s London Design Festival, including, amongst other venues, London’s prestigious 100% Design event.

During his stay, Sir Andrew Cahn also met with the Heads of various large British subsidiaries operating in Argentina.

On a personal note, Sir Andrew met with a former colleague of his father, the late Professor Robert Cahn, who together  were founders of materials science in Argentina and in particular of the Instituto Balseiro in Bariloche.
