Alan Bacarese, Crown Prosecutor for the UK, visited Argentina as part of a cooperation project on Corruption and Asset Recovery run by the British Embassy. Alan Bacarese is a former member of the OECD Bribery Working group and in May 2007 he was seconded by the Crown Prosecution Service to the newly created International Centre on Asset Recovery (ICAR), based in Basle, Switzerland.

During his visit, Bacarese met with Dr Alejandro Strega, National Coordinator and Representative at FATF form the Ministry of Justice.

In addition to this, Bacarese attended an event organised by the FLACSO University where he gave a presentation, together with Guillermo Jorge (an expert on asset recovery and money laundering), on Asset Recovery, followed by a Q&A session.
The discussion covered the difficulties faced worldwide when implementing the various international treaties on bribery and corruption and the role of the Institute for which Alan works (ICAR) in terms of international asset recovery.

Finally, on August 28 and 29, he took part in a workshop organised at the Universidad de San Andres. It was attended by investigators from the following areas: Financial Information Unit (UIF), National Anticorruption Prosecution office (FIA), Anticorruption Office (OA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Federal Police and Interpol.

The objective of the training workshop was to improve the participants´ knowledge on financial investigations, identification of assets eligible for being recovered, localisation and recovery of those assets through international cooperation at all levels – police, administrative and judicial.

The workshop included an interactive simulation exercise where participants were divided into groups and they had to run an entire local and international investigation of a corruption case, analyse evidence, request warrants, seize and recover assets from overseas.
