Focus on Argentina
The Embassy works with Argentine organisations on a wide range of projects supported by different Programme funds. Embassy officers identify opportunities for joint work and then decide which Fund to bid to.
All projects relating to Climate Change are ruled by the FCO’s main co-operation fund strategy. This is the Strategic Programme Fund (SPF), the main Programme Fund run by the FCO.
The Embassy will not accept spontaneous project bids, i.e. any proposals that have not been previously discussed with the relevant Embassy representative will get no reply. We suggest you contact the Embassy to learn more about the application process and dates.
Guidelines for the Climate Change “Low Carbon, High Growth" Programme
The CLIMATE CHANGE SPF Low Carbon – High Growth programme is a global programme. Proposals must be supported by all the relevant Embassies, but they are presented (and coordinated) by only one Embassy.
Climate Change Global Programme objectives
1. A visible and accelerated shift in investment initiated in the major economies towards low carbon.
2. Political conditions created for an equitable post-2012 agreement at the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP) in Copenhagen in December 2009 of sufficient ambition to avoid dangerous climate change.
3. Risks to UK and EU energy security managed through more diverse and reliable external sources of supply and more efficient global consumption.
The Embassy can only submit regional projects to this Fund and should follow the following instructions:
- A regional bid must have an impact potential in the all of the countries involved and explain how this will be carried out;
- The bid should make clear the strategic importance of tackling that issue in that region;
- An issue might determine the choice of countries rather than geography;
- A regional proposal is not just a composite of similar activities in nearby countries. The project outputs and purpose should achieve something more than the sum of the individual country projects. The bid must have the support of all the relevant embassies, but be submitted (and co-ordinated) by one embassy.
The Embassy also supports smaller climate change initiatives for which it occasionally has non-SPF funds available. We suggest you contact an Embassy representative for further information.
